Fluorescent lights

Fluorescent lights are known to be more efficient and cost effective over their life time when compared to incandescent light bulbs.  Fluorescents lights are approximately 6 to 9 times more efficient than incandescent light bulbs;  for example an 8 watts fluorescent light bulb could easily replace a 75 watt incandescent light bulb.  Incandescent light bulbs also dissipate much of their power in the form of heat which consequently adds to your air conditioning bill.  The typical life cycle of an incandescent light bulb is 1,500 hours, unlike a fluorescent that last up to 12,000 hours.

LED Lights

LED lights are a significant improvement from fluorescent in both power consumption and life cycle.  A LED light bulb typically consumes 1/2 watt  and last for 22,000 hour which is approximately 11 years if run 24 hours a day. We can greatly appreciate the impact LED light bulb arrangements would have on industrial and/or commercial installations' utility bills.

Ceiling and other fans provide additional cooling and better circulation so you can raise the thermostat and cut down on air conditioning costs. Energy Star-certified ceiling fans do even better, moving air up to 20 percent more efficiently than conventional models, and those that include energy efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) are up to 50 percent more efficient than those with incandescent lighting. The CFLs last six to 10 times longer than traditional lighting and generate 70 percent less heat.

Sufficient insulation can increase your comfort and reduce your cooling costs up to 30 percent. Start with the attic – which can reach temperatures of 150 degrees – followed by exterior and basement walls, floors, and crawl spaces. Insulate and seal attic air ducts, too.

High-performance Energy Star windows can reduce average cooling costs from 15 to 35 percent in central and southern climate zones. With efficient windows, homeowners can invest in smaller, less expensive cooling systems while maintaining indoor comfort.
