State and Federal Incentives

The state of Texas offers several renewable energy incentives to it citizens and corporations such as property tax and franchise tax exemptions.  For more incentives and details, please follow the web links below.

The Federal government credits back 10% of the total investment on any renewable energy equipment such as solar air conditioning, solar space heat, solar electricity and solar hot water.  In addition to the above renewable investment, the federal government gives a 10% tax credit on insulation purchases to reduce heat loss and air condition leakage.  Home-office businesses can also claim this 10% tax credit in proportion to the office space square footage. To claim this tax credit use IRS form 3468.  If you need instructions on using the form, please relate to Publication 17, page 97 or see your accounting and tax expert.

Businesses can recover the their investment in renewable energy equipment within five years of the purchase through the Modified Accelerated Cost Recovery System depreciation method.  In addition to the above depreciation method, businesses can also depreciate 50% of the investment cost within the first year.  Please see your accounting and tax experts to see if you qualify for any of these tax benefits.
